Bond of affection between Malawi and Japan is unbreakable

August 7, 2016,was one of the unforgettable days in the family of Malawi’s former Ambassador to Japan, Major General Dr Rueben Ngwenya as he witnessed the marriage of his son, Vuso Ngwenya who married Joyce Chirambo, in a colorful wedding, whose reception, took place at Cross roads hotel in Malawi capital Lilongwe. The Cross Road Hotel Main hall which was filled to the brim saw Malawian dignitaries attending the wedding and they included the Principal Secretary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Dalitso Kabambe, representative from the office of the President and Cabinet, Commander of Malawi Defence Force, General Supuni, Former Commander of the Malawi Defence Force, General Henry Odilo, Senior Military officers from the Malawi Defence Force and Former Defence Minister Ken Kandido just to mention but a few.

However of more interest at the wedding ceremony was the presence of the Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, His Excellency Mr. Shuichiro Nishioka, who was accompanied by his wife.

No wonder when Dr Ngwenya took time to make his remarks; he recognized the presence of Japanese Ambassador to Malawi in a special way. Dr Ngwenya took the opportunity to briefly thank the ambassador for his continued support when he was serving as the country’s Ambassador to Japan. Ngwenya, a man of valor, represented Malawi in Japan with honour and dignity.

Against this background, one can argue that the presence of the Japanese Ambassador at a local wedding ceremony of son of a former Ambassador to Japan shows that there is a strong bond of affection existing between the people of Malawi and the people of Japan. This is something the people of the two countries must be proud of.

In this country, we have Japanese people working in different departments and to you fellow Malawians who are working hand in hand with them; let’s emulate the example set by Dr Ngwenya and the Ambassador.

Let’s invite our counterparts to test our finest local dishes; let’s invite them to attend our local cultural festivals, kaya ku Mlakho uku, Mthetho wa Angoni, kaya ku Gule Wa Mkulu, enawa muwametetse ku dambwe, ha ha ha (Zocheza). But the point is let’s make them feel that they are indeed in the warm heart of Africa, the peaceful Malawi!

What happened yesterday is a big gesture in the art of diplomacy and it shows that the relationship between Malawi and Japan is continuing to grow from strength to strength.

Long Live Japan! Long Live Malawi!

Really? Is this what you call news? I know Nyasatimes can do better than this. This is purely personal and not national business. We are not interested in personal but national businesses. Wedding is a personal thing and we have had weddings attended by foreign dignitaries, army generals, ministers and even the state president before. Does that increase our GDP? Regardless of who patronizes it, it’s just personal business. We, Malawians don’t care who marries what and who attends those weddings. That will never add any value to our GNI. This nonsense must stop … hahahaha.
