Over 150 athletes register for TNM’s sponsored Cape Maclear Triathlon
The 2016 TNM-sponsored Cape Maclear Triathlon has received an overwhelming response with over 150 athletes registering for the gruelling challenge.
The annual challenge is slated for 26 to 28th August in the Lake Malawi district of Mangochi.
Event Manager Jam Kaunda of Mizu Foundation said all is set for the event which has attracted participants from different sporting disciplines.
“We currently have 153 participants across all disciplines and we expect more to come and participate in this year’s event.” he said.
Kaunda said many sporting activities have been lined including a 2km Thumbi Island swim, cycling, volleyball, football, swimming and canoe rowing.
“In total we have six main events comprising the main triathlon, group triathlon, canoe race, kayak race, volley ball, 2km Thumbi Island swim and we look forward to a competitive and entertaining event,” he said.
Kaunda hailed TNM for the support which has enables the foundation to hold this event for second successive year.
“This is the 2nd Annual TNM Cape Maclear Triathlon, made possible by the support from TNM, without which an event of this scale would not have been possible. As an NGO, Mizu Foundation hopes to use this event to raise funds for charity for socioeconomic interventions in poor communities,” Kaunda said.
TNM PR & Sponsorship Manager Limbani Nsapato said by sponsoring the Triathlon, the mobile telco hopes to help raise the profile of minor sports and promote tourism in Malawi.
“Triathlon is an Olympic sport. TNM would like to promote the triathlon so that the country’s athletes start to take the sport seriously and improve Malawi’s record at the Olympics,” he said.
Top country’s renowned DJ’s including Maya, Munchie and Slow Mo and four Acoustic Musicians Neal Nayer , Adrian Kwlepeta, rock Artist Zwangi Wangie Pangie have been lined up to spice up the event with music starting from Friday night and Saturday starting around 15:00 hours till late.
Malawi’s premier mobile service provider, TNM has pumped in K11 million for the event.
