2 students arrested at Soche Technical for gun possession charge – Malawi Police

Malawi Police in commercial capital, Blantyre have arrested two Soche Technical College students for illegal possession of a fire arm.

The students, identified as 28 year-old Timothy Malomba of Chiwopya village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Nkhumba in Phalombe district and Joseph Kalamula, 17, of Ngwenya village in Blantyre, were allegedly found with a pistol.

They were arrested during a sweeping exercise the law enforcers conducted during the night of August 12 and 13 2015 in Limbe, according to Southern Region Police Assistant spokesperson, Peter Mchiza.

“They were found near Limbe Market where one of suspects was found with a pistol and told the law enforcers the firearm belonged to his friend. So, the police just arrested them and they will likely face felony charges,” said Mchiza, revealing that similar (sweeping) exercise saw the arrest of 10 people for rogue and vagabond in Mwanza.

“Two others were arrested for possessing forex without supporting documents,” Mchiza.

Of ate gun crime has been on the increase in the country.
