20 students arrested for illegally possessing MSCE exams in Mzimba
About 20 students have been arrested by police in Malawi’s northern region district of Mzimba for allegedly being found in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) Geography Paper 1 examinations.
Mzimba police publicist Joseph Chambuluka said of the twenty students, 14 are girls studying at Multipular Private Secondary School while the rest are external candidates. He said they were arrested Wednesday afternoon prior to the time the examination was supposed to be written.
“I can confirm that we’ve arrested 20 students for being found in possession of Geography exams in Mzimba. We’ve released them on bail to let them finish their exams but they will appear before court soon,” said Chambuluka.
This is the first time that police have arrested students in the northern region for cheating this year’s exams which have been characterized by leakages.
While admitting receiving reports from the public on the leakages both Rhoda Manjolo and Roy Hauya, national police spokesperson and Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) respectively have insisted the exams are protected.
