26 earn Malawi squad call-up: Flames to regroup

Newly appointed Malawi senior national team coach Ronny Van Geneugden has released names of locally based players expected to go into traing camp on Tuesday and start preparations for the forth coming African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign and the Cosafa Castle Cup.

Belgian coach Ronny Van Geneugden: Calls up local players

Speaking after announcing his first official call-up, the new Flames tactician said he has picked players based on merit.

“The list of players I have announced are those that have the technical abilities to suit my philosophy. These are players that I have watched playing for their respective clubs and some were part of the national team during the Madagascar game.

“The door is still open for other new players and even those who were regulars for the team. But am happy because my call-up has almost 40% new players which I feel is ideal,” said Ronny.

The Belgian also hinted on possibilities of playing a friendly match before the Comoros game.

“Our first priority with the Technical Director is to have a strong team.  They will start with exercises from Tuesday up until when we release them for club duties on Friday. From there, it’s now when we will decide on possibilities of playing a friendly before the Comoros game. We have not yet identified a team but we hope we will be communicated,” said the Belgian tactician.

Capital City giants, Silver Strikers dominate Van Geneugden call up with six players followed by Be Foward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets who have contributed 5 players each.
