Police assistant Public Relations Officer, Andrew Mayawo told Nyasa Times that the sweeping exercise was staged in reaction to a series of crimes that have occurred recently within Blantyre.

The law-enforcers arrested James Mushonga Phiri aged 27 for the offence of theft; Vincent Kalembo 23, together with Blessings Floater aged 21 and Ellen Mbanga 43 years old for being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa (locally known as Chamba).

While the other 27 people were charged with offences of selling liquor without licence, touring, and rogue and vagabond.

“The police is urging all people within the Blantyre jurisdiction to avoid breaking the law for we will never stop making arrests,” warned Mayawo.

That’s good, but your arrests are biased. You spare those that give you money and those that sell you liquor on credit. If they happen to deny you credit, they become your enemies. Even other police officers have their pubs there, we know them very well, but I dont want to mention their names
I was there on Tuesday the 9th August 2016 and did my simple research. I found that all liquor sellers behind Blantyre Flea Market do not have operating licenses.
The most surprising thing is that while others were being arrested, others were still selling liquor in their pubs.
I wouldn’t have a problem with you if you had arrested all liquor sellers.
The eye is seeing you, the long arm of the law will catch up with you,
    Mind you, enafetu zimatiwawa.

Instead of arresting people for Chamba, maybe focus your efforts on the BIG crimes like cashgate in which millions are stolen.
