4 killed in Mugabe Highway accident, one person dies in Mangochi horror accident

An accident at Chisombezi Bridge in Chiradzulu  along Robert Mugabe Highway  has claimed lives of four people asa bus they were travelling on rolled over three times after one of its tyre burst on Tuesday evening.

According to an eyewitness, Patrick Sam, there were about 15 passengers in the bus, four died on the spot; nine were severely injured whilst two escaped with minor injuries.

The four are said to have been taken to Nguludi Hospital  in Chiradzulu whilst the rest were taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre.

In Mangochi, one person has diewas reported dead while several other passengers have sustained injuries of different degrees when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident.

Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Rodrick Maida said the accident occurred at Bwadabwa Bridge along the Mangochi — Makanjira road on Tuesday.

Maida said an Isuzu 3 tonne lorry was being driven by Yamikani Smart, 24, from the direction of Mangochi towards Makanjira while loaded with goods and several passengers.

He said the driver lost control of the vehicle and it started reversing on the descent as a result it overturned once and plunged into the dry river.

Maida added that following the impact one passenger broke his neck and died on the spot.

The police publicist said seven other passengers who sustained serious injuries have been admitted to Mangochi District Hospital while six others escaped the accident with minor injuries.

Maida identified the deceased as Issa Wasili, 24, who hailed from Masale Village in the area of Traditional Authority Makanjira in Mangochi.

You remove the name of a barbaric despot (Robert Mugabe) from our road and replace it with (Attati Mphakati) Rd who laid down his precious life for our freedom and dignity.What has Mugabe done to our nation to deserve such an honour?Wakeup vindele Imwe.
