8-year-old pupil killed in Mzuzu hit-and-run accident: Malawi Police hunting for driver

Malawi Police in Mzuzu are looking for a killer driver, only identified as Suzgo, for causing death of a pupil in a hit and a run road accident.

The standard eight pupil who was expected to sit for Malawi National Examination Board  exams  on Wednesday, met his fate as he was escorting his friends after classes at Mzuzu CCAP Primary School.

Mzuzu deputy spokesperson for the police Cecilia Mfune identified the deceased as Sizwe Kunkuyu of 8 years of old, a son to a police officer.

Mfune said the killer driver  was on a vehicle registration number, NS 2021, Toyota Corolla, from the direction of Nkhata Bay going towards Mzuzu city but run away after the incidence.

“Due to overspeeding, the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit five pedestrians in the process,” said Mfune.

The pupil died on  spot after sustaining head injuries while the other four pupils sustained serious injuries and they are battling for their lives at Mzuzu Central Hospital.

In a related development, two passengers died on spot on May 15, 2017 at Elamuleni area in another road accident.

The accident involved a truck registration number MJ 4951/DO 2487 ERF which was loaded with bags  of flour and it was coming from Blantyre going to Mzuzu with five passengers and an assistant on board.

At around 5 am, upon reaching Elamuleni area, the driver failed to negotiate a corner due to overspeeding and the truck over turned.

The two unknown passengers, male and female, died on spot while the three others including the assistant sustained minor injuries.

The driver ran away soon after the accident.

Bodies are being kept at Mzuzu Central Hospital mortuary.

As efforts are under way to arrest both drivers, Police are asking public to assist in terracing their whereabouts so that the law should take its cause.

The boy was so innocent and had gone two early, its painful to lose such a young boy. may God comfort the bereaved Family. May his soul rest in peace.
Caution to drivers: plz always observe speed limit, speed thrills but kills too.

I am surprised that all the three comments are focused on the typing error instead of feeling sorry for the untimely death of this pupil and the bereaved family… instead of condemning the hit and run act of the driver!!
