ACB moves in on Karonga K57mil abuse of Masaf funds

Graft busting body, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has moved in to probe how K57 million was abused at Karonga District Council strangling some development activities.

ACB’s spokeswoman Egrita Mdala: Needed to find out

Chairman of Karonga District Council Accounts Committee Patrick Kishombe told a full council meeting in Karonga on Saturday that the ACB would probe the matter so that it comes to an end and culprits be brought to justice.

The money was for Local Government Development Fund’s Masaf 4.

Some council officials were arrested and suspended.

ACB spokesperson Egritta Ndala said she needed time to find out if Karonga is on the list of councils to be probed by the ACB apart from Mangochi and Mulanje.

The council members then approved a K2 billion budget for the council for 2017/8 financial year but rejected a report of expenditure for last year, saying they were not impressed on how the finances were used.
