ACB nabs Malawi Revenue Authority tax assessor, Johnson & Wilson auditor on corruption charges

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) tax assessor, Emmie Jiya and Johnson and Wilson Company Auditor, Chifundo Makande on corruption charges.

tax assessor was demanding K70, 000.00 in order to prepare a tax clearance certificate to a business entity”.

She said ACB in conjunction with the police arrested  Makande and Jiya this week before Blantyre Magistrates Court granted them bail after paying K10,000.00 cash bail bond each and produce, each, two reliable sureties bonded at K20,000.00 non-cash, and to be reporting to ACB once every fortnight on Mondays.

“The court also orders them not to interfere with state witnesses and not to leave Blantyre without the authority of the Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

“They will be taken to Court on a date to be set by the Court for commencement of trial”.
