Action Aid Malawi touts pre-schools education
Action Aid says pre-school education is vital to ensuring quality education in the country as it is a foundation for basic education especially in remote areas far from primary schools.

The remarks were made during the opening of the newly constructed building to be used as a Community Based Child Care Centre (CBCC) for children from three to five year olds at Kafwafwa village in Traditional Authority Kasakula, Ntchisi.
Senior group village headman Kafwafwa appreciated Action Aid’s initiative in the area.
“Most of our children in villages were illiterate due to long distances to school. This CBCC will ensure that all kids in five satellites surrounding our village are learning here. We promise to take care of it and we will make sure that every child within the age range is going to school.
“As a village, we contributed 25% and Action Aid completed with 75% to the development of the CBCC,” he said.
Action Aid Executive Director in Malawi Martha Khonje said it was very pathetic that in Ntchisi only 40 per cent of the children go to primary schools and most of them stay home.
She said the CBCC will motivate children to love education from a tender age.
“For Malawi to be developed it needs educated people and CBCC’S are very crucial to children as they are the foundation basics of pre-education. We are complementing government’s effort in ensuring that there is quality education and this should start at this age,” Khonje said.
She said it would be a waste of resources to have such a building but fail to utilise it to its intended purpose. She therefore requested the office of the District Commissioner to monitor every activity at the CBCC.
Khonje bemoaned inadequate funding towards pre-education and requested government to increase its funding towards those programmes.
During Opening, Action Aid team and the Ntchisi District Commisioner planted fruit trees surrounding the CBCC.
