Adrian Kwelepeta wins Sunbird Search for a Star: Malawi tatent show

Lilongwe-based teen Adrian Kwelepeta was in the wee hours of Sunday crowned this year’s Sunbird Search for a Star winner in front of a strong audience at Capital Hotel.

The 19-year-old boy outclassed four other finalists namely Chisomo Nteteka, Sithembile Banda, Ruth Magona and Brian Kachilowa to grab the half million Kwacha ultimate prize, with 100% public votes.

He walked away with the K500 000 (US$1 176).

Asked what was going through his mind after winning, Adrian said: “I don’t know.”

“This competition has taught me a lot in as far as my music career is concerned. I can now boost to say I am a musician because I have learnt a lot,” he said.

Chisomo, also from the capital popuraly known as Chichi, scooped the second position and was magnanimous in defeat.

“Adrian deserved to win,” she sai describing him as a clean-cut singer.

Ruth Magona, representing the commercial city, Blantyre, finished third.

The competition which was inaugurated last year as E-wallet was first won by  Wakhumbachi  Kaluwa.
