African Film Academy to train move malers in Malawi on production

Movie makers in the country have all the reasons to smile as a chance to upgrade their skills in the field has arrived, courtesy of African Film Academy (AFA).

Through a Malawi movie makers Film-In-A-Box, AFA will conduct from May 27 to June 16 2013 at the Blantyre Cultural Centre, formerly French Cultural Centre.

The training comes after the organisers, Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) celebrated their 9th awards this year with a nominations gala that took place in Malawi. They have gone further to offer the Film-In-A-Box training.

The training will have modules on screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing and acting.

“This training is available to 1, 000 young people in Blantyre, Mzuzu and Lilongwe. So far about 600 have registered and the majority of registrations are from Lilongwe.

“Normally charged at $1, 000 the training is free in Malawi with a registration fee of MK 5, 000 for materials,” said Carl Gilbert, Director of Africa Film Academy Malawi office in the press statement.

For the exercise, trainers from the SADC Region and beyond will come to Malawi.

“The Film-In-A-Box training will provide a foundation for the sustainable development of Malawi’s nascent film industry,” organisers said in a statement. “The Chief Executive Officer for AAMA Peace Aniyam-Osigwe is determined to propel Malawi into the 21st century African movie industry.”

Excellent scripts to be produced during the workshop will be circulated among Nollywood film directors.

Additionally, there will also be make-up courses in Lilongwe and Blantyre which will be headed by Nigerian company House of Tara. They will involve intensive make-up training which will provide candidates with a full make up kit upon completion of the course with a training fee of MK 20, 000 and a Take Home Kit at 100,000.
