African Rap Queen is the UMP surprise act

A day to the UMP Awards, it has been revealed that South Africa’s female rapper, best known as African Rap Queen, is the third international act lined up to perform at the show slated for BAT Ground in Blantyre.

Event producers, Nde’feyo Entertainment, have kept the identity of the surprise act under wraps until Friday when it was established that the 26-year-old Nadia Nakai is performing at the UMP Awards this Sunday.

The Family Tree diva is arriving in the country along with her label mate Gemini Major, a Malawian South Africa based rapper who is set to headline performances at the event, a celebration of urban music, lifestyle and culture in Malawi.

A source said Nadia Nakai is among the Family Tree crew, led by Gemini Major, gracing the UMP Fashion Night and Media Awards at the Game Stores Underground Car Park this Saturday night.

Nadia Nakai is is signed to Cassper Nyovest’s Family Tree Records. She is the first female rapper to win the Mixtape 101 competition on the ETV show Shiz Niz.

She released her first official single Like Me in 2013 and broke out in 2014 after being featured on the remix of the Riky Rick Amantombazane. Nadia was a judge on the MC portion of the SABC1 hip-hop show Battle Stations.

Nadia has collaborated with some of the biggest names in South African hip-hop, including Kwesta and Ice Prince, Cassper Nyovest, Gemini Major, among others.

She released her EP Bragga in September 2016 under the Family Tree label.
