Airborne knock out Bullets in Standard Bank Cup

Airborne Rangers on Thursday booked a place in the quarter-finals of the 2014 Standard Bank Knock-Out after coming from behind to equalise and beat Big Bullets through post-match penalties at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Fresh from wining Carlsberg Cup, Bullets were first to score after early in the first half through their striker Diverson Mlozi to put Bullets into the lead.

The Salima based soldiers equalised in the second half in the 77th minute through Sam Banda to make it 1-1.

After deadlock in the 90 minutes regulation time, referee Mabvuto Msimuko had no option but to call for penalties.

Airborne scored all the 9 spot kicks but Bullets’ Mlozi saw his spot kick being saved by Airborne goalkeeper which meant end of the road for Bullets in K28 million Standard Bank Knock-Out cup.

Airborne will meet their brothers in arm, Mafco, in the quarter finals of the prestigious cup. The hands of Airborne Rangers through post match penalties at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
