Airborne Rangers gun for Super League

Chipiku Central Region Football League pacesetters Airborne Rangers of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Parachute Battalion are set to earn promotion into the TNM Super League as they take on 13th placed Black Eagles in a league fixture scheduled for Nankhaka Ground in Area 30 tomorrow.

The paratroopers from Salima are just three points away from claiming the Chipiku League championship and victory over the police outfit will guarantee them a place in the country’s elite league with two league games to spare.

Presently, Airborne lead the league’s chart with 76 points from 35 games, seven points ahead of second-placed Support Battalion also from the MDF, who have played the same number of games.

Hard Knockers are third with 66 points from 35 games followed by Dwangwa United on 64 points from the same number of games.

Should the paratroopers fail to get it right at Nankhaka tomorrow, they will have a chance to correct the situation at their home base in Salima on Sunday, when they host 11th placed Mchinji Boma Stars.

In the likely event that Airborne gets promoted into the Super League, the military representation in the national league will increase from four to five teams or even six if Cobbe Barracks from Zomba win the Southern Region Football League championship.

Other weekend fixtures for the Chipiku League will be as follows:

vs Mchinji Boma at Salima, Mchinji Ranks vs Kasungu Medicals at
