Airtel, FDH Bank partner on mobile banking

The landscape of e-banking services in Malawi is poised to take a major shift as FDH Bank and Airtel Money have entered into a partnership that will combine their strengths to offer mobile money services to Malawians.

Speaking at the breakfast launch in Blantyre Friday, the two companies promised to combine their strengths to provide secure, convenient and user-friendly mobile banking services to all Airtel customers that have accounts with FDH Bank.

Among other key attributes, the partnership will see Airtel customers transfer money from mobile account to bank account and vice versa, inter-bank money transfer, check bank balance, mini statement as well as cardless ATM withdrawals.

In his speech, the Chief Commercial Officer for Airtel Malawi, Charles Kamoto said, “Partnering FDH Bank to bring mobile financial services to all corners of country further demonstrates Airtel’s commitment to the growth of a banking culture in the country thereby contributing to macro and micro economic growth of Malawi via mobile telecoms services.”

Kamoto further said this partnership would assist in the realisation of Airtel’s vision of empowering more people in Malawi with affordable and innovative modern banking services.

“At Airtel, we are committed to creating value propositions that will delight, enrich and benefit our customers regardless of their income level and location,” he highlighted.

FDH Bank Managing Director Phillip Madinga said, FDH bank continues to be the fastest growing bank in the country and that this partnership would enable FDH to reach the unbanked community instantly.

“eMobile is here to stay and FDH is proud to be in the fore front of pioneering such innovations in a bid to bring about the much needed modernisation and convenience in the banking sector,” Madinga said.

This partnership adds more weight to the values that customers can benefit through Airtel Money.

FDH Bank is a wholly Malawian owned financial institution that has been operational for six years now.
