Airtel Malawi names Mwawi Kumwenda as its brand ambassador: ‘Its now’

Malawi’s first and only netball export, Mwawi Kumwenda was chosen as Airtel Malawi’s ambassador replacing international football star Yaya Toure who featured in the initial phase of the’ its now’ campaign.

Riding on the celebrity’s popularity, Airtel launched a campaign dubbed “It’s Now”, which seeks to nurture and grow talent through sports, lifestyle and music. At the same time, the campaign aims to provide customers with access to connectivity and technological solutions.

Speaking at the launch on Wednesday at Ryalls Hotel in Blantyre, a cting Managing Director for Airtel Malawi Charles Kamoto said in this second phase of thematic campaign, “Its Now” , Mwawi Kumwenda has been endorsed as the headliner of the 2016 campaign.

He said after a thorough consultation with Airtel’s 3.5 million plus customers, they opted Kumwenda because she is someone who inspires them through her passion and determination to overcome all odds in order to live her dreams.

“We all know the magnitude of success that Mwawi has registered on the local scene by maximizing the power of her potential. She is someone who has used her potential to reach greater heights by leading the Malawi Queens into several victories and her major global accolade in 2015 was being crowed overall player of the tournament at the 2015 Netball World Cup. That’s the power of potential!

“Mwawi is thus a shining example of power of potential, showing that with hard work and dedication you can achieve your dreams,” said Kamoto.

He also said as Airtel, they believe that despite the various challenges Malawians face; they can beat the odds and unleash power of potential to conquer endless possibilities.

Kamoto said the second season of the ‘It’s Now’ Campaign brings with it lots of excitement which will further motivate, inspire and empower Malawians to pursue their dreams.

“With the inclusion of a local success icon, this campaign will gain more local relevance and enable us to fully articulate our mission to uplift the lives of Malawians and empower them realize their potential,” he said.

In her remarks, endorsed icon for the thematic campaing Kumwenda said she was excited to have been recognized for her achievements.

“I would like to humbly thank Airtel for choosing me to be the icon for the second phase of the Its Now campaign. I have managed to achieve my dreams through hardworking and determination. The ball is now in your court to make your dreams come true. Your time is now,” said Kumwenda, who is expected to fly back to New Zealand this coming Monday.

Kumwenda plys her trade in New Zealand at Taxtic club.

The partnership will see Mwawi Kumwenda support Airtel’s corporate social responsibility particularly in youth empowerment for development.
