Breaking the news in Lilongwe on Monday, Airtel’s Managing Director Heiko Schlittke said the company had always enjoyed a good partnership with golfers hence taking the passion for the sport of golf to another level.

“Airtel has always been proud to associate with this premium sport. We appreciate their support to the brand, we salute their integrity, professionalism and we are confident that they will do us proud in Uganda.

“We are particularly motivated by the participation of the young golfers  ” he said adding that they were confident that the Malawi National Golf Team would improve from the 6th position which it attained last year in Cape Town.

According to Schlittke, the golfers’ presence in Uganda would enable them experience extensive support from the Airtel network through its one network.

“Don’t forget that golfers on an Airtel network shall fully enjoy the benefit of our one network in Uganda…so no need to panic, no need to buy another sim card and no fear that you will miss some important communication. Airtel has you covered all the way,” he observed.

In his remarks, President of the Golf Union of Malawi Gabriel Kambale thanked Airtel for the sponsorship which he said will go a long way in towards the development of golf in the country.

“The Zone IV Golf Tournament is quite vital for the development of the game of golf in Malawi. The team will be composed of our senior and some junior players. The team will be identified through various competitions,” he disclosed.

The Zone IV Golf Tournament is an international annual event which attracts participation of national teams of all the countries in southern and eastern Africa.

15 teams from across Africa are expected to take part in this year’s edition of the Zone VI golf tournament due to take place next month fromApril 14 – 18 in the Ugandan capital city, Kampala.
