Ali Lazarus wins Old Mutual Golf tourney
Old Mutual Customer Day Golf tournament handed Kachere Golf Club golfer Ali Lazarus his four consecutive title.
Playing off handicap 10 Lazarus overcame a field of 116 golfers to win the two-day tournament with +2 score and James Shonga settled for second with +1 score.
David Nyirenda counted out Bright Kamanga to secure a podium finish with a square score.
Gladson Kuyeli won the longest drive while Rafique Maru was the nearest to the pin winner.
In the ladies section, Doreen Kavala had +5 score to in with Roza Mbiliza, who also won longest drive prize, settling for secons with+4 and Teri Amaro was on third with +2 score.
Blantyre Sports Club captain Medson Kalambule applauded Old Mutual for deciding to turn the one-day tournament to a two-day event after registering an overwhelming response from the golfers.
Old Mutual Managing Chris Kapanga appealed to the golfers to support the firm for it to continue sponsoring the tournament.
Kapanga said Old Mutual had evolved to offer a wide range of services other than just pension fund.
Old Mutual also donated K150,000 towards the maintenance of the course.
The tournament was graced by golfers across the country including Mulanje, Thyolo, Kamuzu Academy, Dwangwa and Blantyre.
