One of the contestants as a councillor in the capital city, Andekuche Chanthunya of People’s Party (PP) said early Wednesday that he just his rival Kwame Bandawe to concede defeat and congratulate him on his election.
“I have just finished talking to Councillor-elect Kwame Bandawe and I congratulated him over his victory. It was a good campaign and I wish him well in his new role,” Chanthunya, a relation to President Joyce Banda said in a statement posted in his Facebook.
The failed Chimutu ward councillor said he was grateful for the support he received and that “failure is wholly mine and I take the blame of not getting us the victory we expected.”
He offered “support and talents to Kwame.”
Andekuche asked those who are celebrating to do so “responsibly and not provoke others.”
“The election is now over, we must all move on, and that means moving on with hope and not holding on to grudges and bitterness. It’s time to make amends. Let’s work together over the next five years,” he wrote.
Kwame said he was “humbled” with his rival’s conceding defeat.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
