Another choir master arrested for sex assault on choir member
Barely two weeks after the Balaka First Grade Magistrate’s court in eastern part of Malawi sentenced a 21 year-old-choir master to 78 months imprisonment with hard labour for defiling and impregnating a 14 year-old choir member, another choir master is in Police custody for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old choir member again.
Confirming the incident Balaka Police spokesperson Sub-Inspector Joseph Sauka, says the suspect Moses Frackshon (21) who is a choirmaster for Christian Development Centre church (CDC) had been defiling the victim who was choir member since February 2013 and the issue was known after the victim’s parents suspected their daughter to be pregnant.
“Upon asking her, the victim said the suspect proposed love to her when they were coming from choir practices in February 2013; and since then he had been defiling her at her home since she sleeps in a separate house with the parents and said he has been threatening her not to reveal to anyone since the suspect has a fiancé within the choir” Sauka says.
He says the victim’s parents took the issue to the police who arrested the suspect for the offence of defilement which is contrary to section 138(1) of the Penal code.
Medical examination conducted at Balaka district hospital reveals that the victim is five months pregnant.
Meanwhile the suspect has already started appearing before the Balaka First Grade Magistrate Court according to the Prosecutor Sub Inspector Mercy Chande.
The suspect Moses Frackshon comes from Jere village, Sub Traditional Authority Kachenga in Balaka district.
