Through his special assistant Ben Phiri, Mutharika who is an alumni at the school, also promised to rehabilitate the school and pay for the maintainance of the the road up to the Boma.

According to Phiri, the whole project will cost the President K20 million.

“This gesture followed a surprise visit the president had to this school, he was shocked with the status of the buildings and the state of the road.

“Although the school has produced prominent people in the society, APM thought it wise to lead in assisting the school so that the rest should follow,” he said.

Phiri said the six kilometer road maintenance and school rehabilitation will start from next week.

“The President is using his own money in all this and it is his wish that he extent the same to other secondary schools.” he said.

Late President Bingu wa Mutharika also was alumni at the same school.

Phiri advised the students to take care of the school and the buses for future use.

“If the crop of APM had vandalised the school I don’t believe some of you could have been here today. Should you destroy the school today, your children or grandsons will have nowhere to learn,” said Phiri.

Dedza Secondary School Deputy Head Edness Banda said the bus will help solve transportation problems.

“We have had problems to help sick students to hospital and teachers to attend meetings at the ministry and district offices and now this is the thing of the past,” she said.

  2. Nobel says:

Of course no one will not be 100% right but let us thank the president no matter how long it has taken him to remember his old school. If Bingu, APM etc were there, how many more were there and how many have come forward to do what the president has done? The same can be replicated into the primary ahd secondary schools we’ve gone. Its better to donate to your former school when ur a head of state than criticize and do nothing though your former school is in dire need of maintenance.

I as one of former students of this school wish to thank the president for remembering the school through this donation. May God bless you Mr President. I wished I could do the same. ‘Sapere Aude’ (Dare to be Wise) is the motto of this school. I was there from 1979 to 1983, residing in Shire Hostel. I love this school. Always in my memories. Godfrey Longwe.

  6. Mfwethu says:

Applauds to APM for this gesture but he should extend this gesture to all schools that are in bad state. As an academician he should make education a priority not just selectively doing his handouts.

  7. crispen kandido says:

HOW CAN A WHOLE PRESIDENT USE TAX PAYERS MONEY AND CLAIM ITS HIS ASSET AND THEN HAVE CAMPAIGN PARADE THAT HE IS DONATING. THIS WAS UNDERSTANDABLE DURING MULUZI PRESIDENCY BCOZ HE IS EDUCATIONALLY CHALLENGED, BUT FOR A PROFESSOR AT LAW!!!!!!!!!!??????????????

  8. mangochi kabwafu says:

Cash gate money? Wazitenga kuti? And the mini bus itself, sii used Dubai? Malawi is pathetic.

  9. mulunguatithandiza says:

Did it have to wait until HE was president to assist the school? So he had no money when in USA and no money when minister and no money before being president. So within six months he has become so rich when the country is bleeding white. How ironic.

    1. The truth shall set them free says:

      How ironic indeed !
This guy came back with literally nothing ! His late brother literally sourced his area 43 house for him , he was very surprised that he also had to literally buy it for him, and not only that ,he had to literally buy the furniture and curtains and pots for him ! And now he can afford to donate public assets in his own name ??
These so called donations are what Cashgates are made of !

  14. Nkhombokombo says:

It is great fun to be a President, you can afford to splash the much desired moneys anyhow and corrupt the most rich Indians to donate for corrupt deals, no one will ask you. So that is the beauty of becoming a corrupt president. So vote for me in the next general elections so that I corrupt more wealthy Indians before they take away our money to foreign Banks. So vote for me!

  15. Patriot says:

This gouvernment is COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED FROM REALITY.
The reality is that Malawi Economy has SUNK.
    People are complaining everyday.
In BT there is no water.
We are failing to renew our passports or process new ones.
Students are getting half of their allowances.
Civil servants have not yet been paid October’s salary, and now November as well.

  16. chigawenga says:

More of our stolen tax money at work. One wonders where the money used to purchase this min bus came from. I would not be surprised if it came from NAC may be Mr Phiri can disclose the source of the money. What a bunch of corrupt clueless leaders.

  17. Nankungwi says:

using your own money Mr president fine but do not use state money and divert it from other important use! We will be very angry if we hear any such nonsense!

  18. Namahocha says:

    Mbava yeni yeni.

  19. Ghost of Kamuzu says:

    TO HEADMASTER DEDZA SECONDARY SCHOOL
Mr Headmaster are you aware that receiving stolen or corruptly acquired mini bus and monies is a penal crime under the laws of Malawi. Better you return the mini bus to ACB with a request for ACB to investigate the source of funds to buy the mini bus and for the repair of the road. President Mutharika has clearly not used his own money for if he had money his wife, NIB and he himself would not be looting NAC. Mutharika is corruptly acquiring funds from corrupt Indians like Faisal Mapheto, Tayoub, Karim, and others.

  20. pierra says:

Very thankful for this generous gesture…may I however ask that you take a good look at the state provision for all schools and government infrastructure whose maintenance support is seriously lacking. A nationwide audit and remedy is required to bring the pride back in ppo serving and receiving custom from these areas.

  21. mchona says:

Big up for Dedza Secondary School, u r trully in the Mutharika’s hearts. Late Bingu donated a bus and rehabilitated the kitchen when it caught fire. Now Peter has bought a minibus and pledged K20m for maintenance! Kodi mwai upose apa?

  22. Malawi says:

Uku ndiye kusutsula bala losapola. This is a gesture of open defiance to the nation. Now APM is using his own money really? The judicially are still not sorted. Now he comes out thru his rt hand man telling us the job will commence in 2weeks. How urgent is it compared to the issues we are facing now? Its a good gesture but bad timing. No wisdom at all. This is a firm if provocation. Once there was a President In Libya called Gadaffi. He wad arrogant and his downfall was so embarrassing. Please stop taking the peaceful Malawians for fools because one day u ll end up regretting. I rest my case.

  23. Yankho says:

Good gesture my President that now you can ably donate MK20,000,000.00. The coffers you are managing although can not afford to pay Teachers, and alot of children were no the streets to your house telling them that they are not in class and yet ULI PHWII wati boma lilibe ndalama. You can claim that you will fight corruption, i doubt your integrity that you can afford to donate that amount when in the past 6 months you failed to fund your campaign. Malawians let us pray hard and shame this devil. Ndalama anaba mkuluwako uja sizinakwane. Alomwe inu ndinu anthu ochititsa manyazi. Taona UN is in big problems with your leadership. How can you take money for the vulnerable groups and give it to your wife. Mr. President koma ndiye mkazi mwamumva kukoma zedi. If you are full in love I doubt whether you can manage state affairs. Okey lets see how you will progress but know for sure that Malawians are starving the prices of their produce are on lower side that they fail to meet the prices for their basic needs because things are expensive on the market. Why not give that money to ADMARC so that they can start buying maize atleast at K60.00 in two or three districts so that vendors can start competing with ADMARC and the prices of maize goes up. This is simple economics. Ndinaiwala paja inu za chumazi ai koma akulu anu aja akubawa(may his sole rest in eternal peace)

  24. Mr.Bambo says:

    Mbava pa Malawi.

  25. Nachipanti says:

Pajatu ku NAC kwabooka… Akuluwa mwati sanangoti pasavute,NAC nthandize??? Tiunikepo bwino pamenepa ndithu…

  26. Ghost of Kamuzu says:

    MEMO TO THE PRESIDENT
Your Excellency, it is a requirement under the Laws of Malawi for you to declare the source of the funds which you used to buy the Mini Bus and the money that you have pledged to repair the road. Have you paid the taxes to MRA for these monies? NO you have not!
Stop the corrupt practice of receiving bribes from Indian businessmen and donating the money for political gain. Instead ask your Indian friends to pay taxes and stop their corrupt practices.
Ben Phiri is running the government! We see!

  27. Phodogoma says:

The Patriot # 2 you better take termic ngati zakupweteka. JB was here how much did she donate? Do you see her donating today or you see her hiding in foreign land. I am told that she came by night and she is hiding Nkhatabay

    1. big cup says:

Amenewo nde mau Phodogoma. JB ndi mbava imene ija yaikazi akubisala pano akudziwa kuti ankaba. Bwanji pano no donatuions, mbuzi ndi abakha ngombe zija si kuli zii!!!

  28. dadaboma says:

APM is a BIG thief. That minibus and all monies passing through his hands are proceeds of theft. Whoever is a recipient of APM’s “gift” must use the same knowing that it is dirty.

  29. The Patriot says:

Its nice to know that “the President is using his own money” just 6 months after being in office! This is the same APM who was failing to honor his sponsorship deals with football leagues when DPP suddenly found itself out of government! Its a marvel to watch people getting rich so fast in office and donating millions right, left and center!!
