Archbishop Ziyaye urges Malawi Catholic members to be proactive

Catholic members in the country have been urged to be proactive and creative in enhancing their development needs for the church.

His Grace Archbishop Ziyaye: Members must have full responsibility of ownership the church

Archbishop of Lilongwe Diocese, the Most Rev. Tarcizio Ziyaye said this Saturday at St Kiziko Parish in Chigoneka, Lilongwe during the launch of a book written by late Bishop Patrick Augustine Kalilombe on “from outstation to small Christian communities”.

He said catholic members should embrace the spirit of owning the church instead of just being ordinary members.

“Members must have full responsibility of ownership the church and not just posing themselves as mere members. What the late Bishop Kalilombe had written encourages us all to develop self reliance in our endeavours throughout our parishes.” Ziyaye noted.

The Archbishop commended catholic members for their effort in ensuring that they mobilize resources in the development of their parishes.

“We are not saying that donors, must stop helping us, but we need to start on our own to move forward,” Ziyaye pointed out.

He disclosed that the church has formed a Bishop Kalilombe trustee which will be mobilizing the funds to help those children who are dumb at Mua in Dedza and St Mary in Blantyre.

The trustees are John Mchilikizo, Mary Shawa, James Kalilombe, Brig. George Liwimbi (Rtd) and Francis Mame.

Editor of the book, Dr Gerard Chigona said the book talks about relevant issues affecting the management of the church.

“Church councils, clergies and Christians have a role to play to make sure that we move forward together. If everyone has role to play in the church issues of sustainability will be promoted and achieved,” he said.

Chigona noted that with the reduction of aid from donors, this has made the church members to look for their own resources for the development of the church.

He said the book is encouraging church members to continue looking for alternative on how they could sustain themselves in their development agendas.

The book has talked about on how the Roman Catholic Christians can stand on their own without depending on donor aid.
