Armed robbers terrorize Chikhwawa district

People in Chikhwawa district have expressed concern over lack of security due to armed robbers who have currently dominated in terrorizing many areas of the district.

Over thirty thugs on Sunday stormed Maperera Trading Centre under Chief Makhuwira and robbed business people’s stores and went away with money and property worth over K1.2million.

According to police spokesperson for Chikhwawa, sergeant Sunday Ngulube, the robbers were heavily armed with metal bars, axes and panga knives which they used to break into shops of three business men namely Jolex Chimwala, Chapeyama Mwenye and Charles Lewis from which they took away K412, 000, K482, 000 and K250, 000 respectively.

The robbers also went away with other valuable items such as phones, DVD players, wheelbarrows and shovels.robbery

This has happened barely a month after a group of robbers also broke into Matechanga motel and a catholic bishop residency, where they went away with money and other assorted items.

There have so far been no arrests made in connection to the theft but the police indicate that they are doing the best they can to find the criminals and bring them to justice.—Malawi News Agency
