Athletics Association of Malawi lands Carlsberg sponsorship

The Gods have smiled once again at Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) after securing a lucrative sponsorship from Carlsberg Malawi Breweries.

Inside sources from Carlsberg Malawi confirmed the development that AAM held preliminary discussions on Monday on the sponsorship deal at the company’s premises in Makata Industrial site in Blantyre which was attended by among others Senior Brands Manager Non Alcoholic, Titha Mbilizi.

The source said Carlsberg Malawi through its quench brand would sponsor three marathons in all the three regions of the country.

But the finer details of the deal regarding the amount were not revealed.

“Carlsberg Malawi would like to sponsor the marathon in all the regions to promote the quench brand,” said the source.

But AAM President Godfrey Phiri was noncommittal when contacted for comment.

“Of course we have some promising sponsors but I can’t tell you now,” Phiri said.

“Let’s wait and see. I will comment later.”

AAM also landed sponsorship from TNM towards athletics for a long term.

TNM, sponsors of the K65 million TNM Super League in football, were reacting growing incidents of violence last seasons.

This will mark the return of Carlsberg Malawi Breweries to athletics after 20 years since they stopped sponsoring athletics.

They used to sponsors Coca-Cola Track and field series and Sobo club which produced great athletes such as Catherine Chikwakwa Chunda, Francis Munthali.
