Atupele pledges to transform Malawi

United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi has accused the ruling People’s Party (PP) leadership of insulting Malawians by claiming that it has transformed the country within the last two years.

Atupele said the two years has been a “missed opportunity” for PP to revive the economy and create wealth for all.

He said this during whistle-stop tours he conducted in Ntcheu and Dedza on Friday.

“Why should a leader claim that she has transformed our country when our hospitaks have no drugs, many people cannot afford a decent meal?” queried Atupele.

He said the hand-outs given by PP loyalists cannot bring transformation.

Speaking at Ntchue Bwanje North constituency, Khola primary school ground, Atupule said Malawians should  in power Ungo’ono ungono [fresh blood].

Atupele also said his government would ensure integrity culture in running the affairs of the state and serving the people.

He said there is need to remove the secrecy on expenditure by the authorities, saying taxpayers need to be updated on how their money is used.

Atupele further said UDF would ensure that people have money in their pockets by revamping economy, labour and agriculture for increased production and job creation.

“Our policy will be to reduce the price of fertiliser for any person willing to venture into agriculture affords fertiliser,” he said.

On his chances to win the May 20 presidential race, Atupele told crowds: “Make no mistake, come May 20 vote for UDF because we are ready to govern.”
