Australian cricket academy to visit Malawi to conduct coaching clinics

Perth Cricket Academy from Australia will travel to Malawi for a 10-day visit from 16 to 27 October, 2016 in which its highly credentialed coaches shall conduct series of workshops with coaches and the youths to promote the game.

In partnership with Malawi Cricket Union (MCU), thee visitors shall also help MCU to develop a strategic plan.

“With regards to the Malawi Cricket Pathway Programs, the Perth Cricket Academy will also deliver a series of high performance training sessions for both male and female squads,” said the academy’s director Job van Bunge in a letter to MCU.

“Finally, the Perth Cricket Academy will undertake an intensive selection process to ensure two best suitable players are invited to join the Perth Cricket Academy to undergo a high performance training program in Perth in January 2017.

“This visit also gives both parties the opportunity to progress the discussed MOU with the aim to further establish this exciting new relationship,” van Bunge said.

The Australians plan to foster lasting partnership with MCU to develop the game  of cricket both in Malawi and globally.

The goal is to work towards annual visits to Malawi where the Academy will assist with the delivery of cricket in schools and the broader community.

The international high performance programme, according to van Bunge, runs from January to March in Perth.

“This program is designed to provide cricketers with the necessary high performance tools to improve as players, both on and off the field.

“These placements will be on a scholarship basis where all coaching sessions and workshops are sponsored by the Perth Cricket Academy.

“The PCA is truly excited by the enthusiasm Malawi Cricket has shown to date on what the PCA can offer,” van Bunge wrote.
