Bankers dislodge Mafco, eyeing top six:  Malawi TNM Super League

Silver Strikers FC have dislodged Mafco from the seventh position on the TNM Super League log table standings following their 2-0 hammering of Epac, alias Njenjete zaku Lilongwe in a mid-week fixture played at Silver Stadium yesterday.

Midfielder Ndaziona Chatsalira and striker Chawanangwa Kaonga secured maximum points for the Central Bankers after striking the visitors’ net in either side of half time.

Chatsalira was on target midway into the first half when he volleyed in a loose ball from the box after Epac defenders had failed to clear a cross from the left.

As Njenjete thought they would escape with a respectable 1-0 loss, Kaonga made it 2-0 in added time after beating goalkeeper Owen Chaima in a one-on-one situation.

The victory saw Silver dislodging Mafco from the seventh position on goal difference. Both sides now have 34 points but the Bankers have a superior goal difference and a game in hand, having played 23 games
compared to Mafco’s 24.

Coach Stain Chirwa expressed happiness with the win, saying he was now targeting a top six finish.

“This is a good come-back after our Sunday loss against Moyale. We are now hoping for a top six finish,” said
Chirwa.

Epac’s Audlo Makonyola, who has only managed a single win in the second round lamented the lack of killer punch on his strikers.

“We had chances to score before our friends but our strikers were jittery in front of goal. We have to work on our scoring problems when we go back to training,” said Makonyola.
