Madam Mutharika, who is founder and patron of Beautify Malawi (Beam) Trust, received the trucks on behalf of BEAM at a function held at Kamuzu Palace, a ceremony the President Peter Mutharika also witnessed.

The new Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Shiting Wanga and the deputy director general for foreign affairs in Anhui Province China Xiang Changming handed over the trucks on behalf of the government of the People Republic of China

In her speech, the First Lady could not hide her joy. Visibly excited, she expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and the Peoples of China, Anhui province in particular for the generous donation.

“I am lost for words because today is the day when our dreams are coming true. I am speechless, because, much as we knew that our partners would come to support us, we never expected this highest level of generosity.

“You have shown that you have the interests of Malawi at heart, and you have confirmed that you equally believe in our dream,  the dream of a nation where cleanliness, good sanitation and hygiene are given top priority,” said Madam Mutharika.

The donation of the three modern refuse trucks, follows a visit to Anhui Province by Te First Lady where she held discussions with officials and requested them to assist Beam with garbage trucks to compliment the overwhelmed city and town councils in the country.

“This donation will go a long way in helping to beautify Malawi. Our cities and towns do not have enough vehicles to collect refuse. Sometimes, it takes more days for garbage to be collected due to limited number of refuse trucks. This donation has therefore come at the right time,” she said.

Apart from the donation, Madam Mutharika also commended the Chinese government for the great partnership with BEAM where the Chinese government is also supporting capacity building for BEAM officials and stakeholders who have travelled to China to attend different capacity building courses.

She also hailed China for the many infrastructure  development projects such as the Parliament Building, the Bingu National  Stadium, the karonga/ Chitipa Road, THE Malawi University of Science and Technology, the five star and international convention centre among others which she said beautified Malawi.

The First Lady also appealed for more support from China including girl child education through construction of Girls Hostels in Community Day Secondary Schools being championed by Beam to keep the girls in school.

It has demolished round abouts in City Centre and plans to construct what I dont know. Where in the world do we have a trust run by a first lady demolishing road structures and intending to rebuild them? Do they have qualified engineers in BEAM Trust?? Now you are into refuse and waste management, osachita consult a City Assembly bwanji and ma truckwo apite ku makhonsolo athu. Dyera bwanji???,

As perpetual beggars we thank BEAM and China for the donation. Quite honestly, however, this tendency of being beggars since life began doesn’t present well for us black people. The ultimate communication we convey to the redt of the world is simple- we can’t do on our own . It follows therefore that no matter how the dictator Robert Mugabe barks for black race reputation it won’t work as long as it remains empirical that we fail to manage our own affairs.

Isih! Support for what? All that money you stashed in offshore accounts and you still ask for more?
Instead of submitting those trucks to city councils, you still cling to them, duplicating duties with councils. What will happen to these trucks in 2019 when you will be out of the palace?
