Blantyre hosts Carlsberg Urban Music Legacy

College of Medicine Sports Complex is the place to be this Sunday, August 21, 2016 if you are an urban music lover in Blantyre.

This promises to be the biggest urban music gig the city has seen this year, with 21 hottest music acts billed to perform.

The lineup is a mix of diverse artists from across all urban music genres that include hip-hop, R&B, reggae and dancehall and pop.

The Carlsberg Urban Music Legacy has engaged big names in the industry, such as Dan Lu, Theo Thomson, Fredokiss, Piksy, Nepman, Young Kay, BarryOne, Daredevilz, Sonye, Sangie and Blakjakto entertain the fans as they maximize visibility of their brands.

Also making the list are Malinga Mafia, Home Grown African, Nesnes, Martse, Bucci, Blaze, Saint, Hazel Mak, King Chambiecco, DNA and Hilco.

“We are creating a platform where urban musicians and fans can interact while they enjoy the Carlsberg brands,” explainedTwikale Chirwa, Carlsberg brands manager (alcoholic beverages).

“This is also a way of empowering local artists because Carlsberg is a brand that believes in promoting home-made products.

“Urban music artists are putting Malawi on the map through their talent and this is a way of supporting them and encouraging them to continue making good music,” Chirwa added.

Gearing up for the concert, Carlsberg Malawi have rolled out a social media promotion campaign called “What’s My Name” in which fans have to identify artists from silhouette images shared on the company’s Facebook page – Severallucky winners will get free entry to the show.

Fans will have to pay K2,000 or buy two Carlsberg beers to have access to the show. VIP entry is pegged at K6,000.

The Carlsberg Urban Music Legacy is one of the big events the company will be supporting after the recent national Chill DJ Battle won by DJ Trick from Blantyre.
