Blantyre vendors pledges good relations with City Assembly

Representatives of the newly formed Blantyre Vendors Union (BVU) say union is set to strengthen the good working relationship between Blantyre City Assembly officials and vendors.

The BVU Chairman, Thomson Banda, said the formation of the union is among other things aimed at making sure that Blantyre city remains an admirable place to stay and a conducive for business activities.

“You know that vendors have always been associated with immoral behaviors like vandalism that is why we have decided to form an umbrella body which will be looking into the behaviors and welfare of vendors from Blantyre,” Banda said.

He explained that the union shall also make sure there is a good working relationship between the Blantyre City Assembly officials and the vendors in enhancing government efforts of uplifting the economic status of the ordinary Malawians.

Banda also said the union will also engage other charitable activities like cheering the sick, cleaning roads as well as markets.

“Apart from these BVU shall also engage in other charitable activities such as cheering the sick mainly those that are HIV/AIDS infected and cleaning both our roads as well as our markets, he said.

“We are there also to make sure that issues of climate change are given the much attention they deserve, as you know climate has changed and hence there is a need for various strategic approaches. For example we intend to plant more trees along the Mudi River, Banda
said.

BVU is fully registered organization with the Malawi government and that it has a constitution for its operations.
