Blue Eagles bitter with FAM over rusty silverware

The newly crowned Carlsberg Cup champions Blue Eagles Football Club have expressed disappointment with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for giving the club a rusty silverware which is believed to be more than 10 years old.

A senior official from the Police side confided in Nyasa Times that the club is saddened with the development.

“This is very bad indeed and I can’t believe that the whole Football Association can give us this rusty cup which is totally out of condition.”

“May be because we are not Bullets or Wanderers but that is not the way it is supposed to go. I believe if it was Bullets or Wanderers, they could have bought a new one,” said the source.

Blue Eagles General Secretary Victor Kalozeni confirmed that the club officials indeed held talks on the matter.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the trophy presented to Blue Eagles is the one meant for the winner of a cup final which ended in violence early 2000 between Mighty Wanderers and Bullets FC.

Drama

The drama concerning the trophy started immediately after the presentation when the handle broke as the champions were busy celebrating.

Before the official presentation at the Crossroads hotel, a well wisher (name withheld) took the trophy to Mchesi township where welders had to rectify the broken handle.
