JosephArchitect of the controversial Mulhako wa Lhomwe society, Joseph Mwanamvekha has been picked by President Bingu wa Mutharika as the next Governor of the  Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM).

Mwanamvekha will take over from Victor Mbewe who has been shown the boot.

A post-graduate of Economics from the University of Malawi and a seasoned banker is currently Chief Executive Offer of Malawi Savings Bank Limited.

Mwanamvekha will be handed a three-year contract.

He will be returning to the RBM where he worked from 1990 and played a key role in the establishment of Financial Market Operations Department, a department charged with the responsibility of formulating and implementing monetary policies.

Government officials were coy to comment on the matter.

  1. Madalo says:

Mwanamveka is competent. He did a great job at Continental Discount House. Now look at this: Thodi, Mwanamveka, Nampota, Matabwa etc. There are lots of educated and competent Malawians Bingu could have chosen outside his Mulhwako Kingdom. This will raise eyebrows that the president is being nepotistic.

    • Amjiba says:

Who do you think he could have chosen. You have rightly said Mwanamveka is competent. So you wanted him not be given the post because he is Mulhwako? It can be mulhwako or tumbuka or chewa provided they are well education and competent.

    • Mphongo says:

      Zoona, Mulhwako uwu utivuta.

      • M.H.Msokera. says:

If this is true, zinthu ndiye zayamba kutiwopsa. Is this country composed of Lomwes only? Someone commented on Victor Mbewe story that we will be suprised that the hot seat will go to the muhlakho. Take care!

    • Tumasile says:

I think guys like Thom Mpinganjira can be more competent than Mwanamveka, looking at Thom’s achievements as well, the problem is he does not involve himself in politics that much.Otherwise wise I think he could be more competent than Mwanamveka.

    • Vena says:

      Palibe, it’s his choice.
You choose people you are confortable to work with.
It’s funny that when someone is chosen from the south it’s an issue.
How many organisations are run by the northeners from top to the floor engineer.
      Let’s be honest sometimes.
If he is competent let him do the job.

  2. jay says:

everyone is nepotistic in african politics
Dr banda was so was Muluzi and now its the lomwes turn!!

    • A tumbuka sikuti ndi anzeru koma kukhwima in simple term ufiti. Mulomwe at its best eliminating Mizuli. Chinanchina ayao ndi a silamu nawo anayala mizu. Tiyenawo ngwazi yathu yamuyaya, udzafe udzaole iwe? Ndakayika wakwezedwa iwe! Alomwe ndi ndi nthawi yanu, mukatengenso ena akulima fodya ku Kasungu a pite ku MANEB adzi kapangira anzawo ma certificate. When recruiting soldiers this year sweep them all to barracks. Every where we want banana type people.

  3. Thats wat alot of leasders do when they are in power. i DONT SEE ANYTHING STRANGE HERE.John Tembo did the same thing when he was at the helm of kamuzu’s era. Even in America first Black president, appointed the first attorney general. i THINK WAT MATTERS SHD BE the person’s capabilities to perform his or her duties. I was against patricia kaliati’s capabiities as Information minister where shecame wasnt a big deal. If this lomwe guy fails to perfom Let him get fired.

  4. munthu says:

Mwamu wona Bingu….???dont say we neva warned u..welcome to lomweland!!!!

  5. Grey Mfuni - Canada says:

    Do not wack Peoples!!!

  6. New era says:

I’m already tired of this mulhako thing..very boring to malawians.Never trust anybody from banana land again.

  7. Principal Seymour Skinner says:

Kodi Alomwe mukukhala ngati atumbuka nanu bwanji? Mipando yonse yonona mukungogawana eti!!

    • Naphiri says:

I am a LOMWE inside out and well educated too. Have been loyal to the President from the day he dumped UDF how come I am not in any mpando wonona. Talk about being oppressed at work because I am a woman! Please leave ahlomwes alone. Let the President selected whom he feels competent regardless of tribe

      • I know you are crying. Pepani Phiri, mwina munatemera mankhwala oyipa mukumuopysa ngwazi. Mwinanso akulephera kukuonani kamba ka chidime chomwe mudatemera. Ukaipa dziwa nyimbo komatu ntchito yatsala ndi ya first lady mungaithe?

    • Mahuhu says:

Most non northeners have held views that northeners favour each other but any sane minded person should see that this is overblown. There are few circumstances yes when you can point at this but does that compare with other tribes-chewa, now lomwe. And their favouritism is in great measure not just simple positions.

All tumbuka company or department is repugnant but all chewa or lomwe company/department is ok. Let us reason with facts

    • Sean says:

Here you go again- how is a tumbuka concerned apa? Trying to justify yourself or what? Think at times before you utter rubbish like that-cheap bastard!!!!!

    • Cisco says:

Atumbuka anagwana bwanji mipando ngati ankhaloko pulesidenti ochoka ku mpoto?

    • Nkhwatakwata says:

ATumbuka sanalamulirepo boma koma kuti ndi akhama pasukulu, munasintha akuluakulu ku MANEB koma akukhonzabe mayeso koma inu kulephela basi ingakhale mumawonela mayeso.

    • Mphondo Zagadabuka says:

So what is the connection between this story and Atumbuka. People discuss issues not tribes ok!

  8. Nasibeko says:

The fact is Mwanamveka is Malawian, qualified, competent and experienced. He is being given the chance on merit and this chance should not miss him because he is associated with Mulhako Wa Lhomwe and this shows that the president is courageous enough not to appease other people because are not associated with Mulhako Wa Lhomwe. people because are not associated with Mulhako wa Lhomwe.

    • Mmalawi Wokondwa says:

It shows that Nasibeko doesnt get it. Malawi has 28 districts and each district has qualified and competent personnels. How come does the central positions of our nation is just held by one tribe? Can’t you see the direction at which the leadership has taken. If you are part of the tribe, it’s fine we understand but how could you feel if such a practice is done by others outside your tribe? For our country sake where does this kind of leadership will take the nation? Malawians please open your eyes!!!!!!

  9. charlie says:

oh pleasewhats all this nepotistic stuff you people are talking about. even the lion of malawi kamuzu ensured a good chunk of chewas got strategic positions. tcheya did the same. look how he ramembered all his relatives when he was in power. even if you were bingu you would first assist abale ako then start considering others. after all mwanamvekha is competent. after all the nepotism gurus in this country are those from the other part of the country….. so whats the beef about nepotism.

    • Mmalawi Wokondwa says:

If Malawians will continue living with the past the nation will never advance. Why are we waisting our time with Kamuzu’s nepostic leadership style, can’t we learn from those mistake and build new Malawi of free of those ils? A Charlie zikuwoneka ngati kuti kuganiza mwa umunthu kumakuvutani.

    • Sean says:

How so ppo? how so? It’s ok now for you to do it and still label the people from the other part as “after all the nepotism gurus in this country are those from the other part of the country…” koma inu mukupanga zomwezo. I just don’t get it.

  10. John Jangiya says:

While Mwanamvenkha is competent, I think Bingu is obviousy promoting Alomwe…Bingu guys is fast becoming a biog liability…koma tizawonana later..we will fix him like the way he is fixing Bakili…he has alot to explain……he is a worst nepotist

    • mmela mpoyamba says:

thats too much why alomwe only big seats.nanga pakati? mpoto?.kukhala sichoncho ngati ana kuvotelani ndia lomwe okha nenani.
