Mwanamvekha next Reserve Bank Governor
Architect of the controversial Mulhako wa Lhomwe society, Joseph Mwanamvekha has been picked by President Bingu wa Mutharika as the next Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM).
Mwanamvekha will take over from Victor Mbewe who has been shown the boot.
A post-graduate of Economics from the University of Malawi and a seasoned banker is currently Chief Executive Offer of Malawi Savings Bank Limited.
Mwanamvekha will be handed a three-year contract.
He will be returning to the RBM where he worked from 1990 and played a key role in the establishment of Financial Market Operations Department, a department charged with the responsibility of formulating and implementing monetary policies.
Government officials were coy to comment on the matter.

iF IT’S only on competency then its okay, BUT to me it looks like he is putting his OWN boys in FINANCIAL, SECURITY and other institutions to :
1- Steal cash in the final term eg Godall if its a matter of competency he shd have been maintained but for other reasons, removed and put Mwitha’s friend as Finance Minister.This guy will steal money for himself and Binu and hide any potential frauds.
2-Police, you know the Lomwe guy he has put in and immediately the guy starts fighting Muluzi.This police head will enable him (Bingu)destroy even potential evidence just be4 his term is over.
3-We are yet to see the strategic move he will take at National Audit Office, Press Corp and other areas.

I feel some of the senior position must not be appointed by a single person but they must be advertised and a separate body to conduct the interviews.

Victor was not good material for RBM.Even the general public made an outcry during his appointment …he doesnt have the necessary monetary qualifications. He messed up ( with the UDF)the then Commercial Bank of Malawi when Lawrence had left as one best banks. There was a multitude of exodus of customers from the Stanbic of which he was CEO. Mwanamvekha is a proactive person.Look at how he has turned around MSB.
