BT police arrest three ‘hardcore’ criminals, confiscate guns

Police in Blantyre have arrested three armed men described as hardcore criminals who were on the verge of terrorising with city.

The police arrested Steve Malikebu John White 28, from Mphika village, T/A Chikumbu in Mulanje, Charles Kito James 37, Naisi village in Machinjiri and Mike Anthony 26 years-old from Chikwi village in Zomba at unnamed lodge in Machinjiri Township, Blantyre.

They were found with AK47 and a paraberam pistol with 79 live ammunition.

However, Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer, Elizabeth Divala suspected the three to have used fake names in order to conceal their previous criminal record.

“According to our officers at Criminal Investigation Department ((CID) who made the arrest following a tip-off, the three must have given us fake names to hide their identities as they were once convicted on various crimes such as armed robbery,” explained Divala.

Divala said according to records, the three are hardcore criminals who had once escaped from Kanengo and Mulanje police custody.

“We hail the members of the public for helping us with vital information leading to the arrest of criminals terrorising our cities and towns. As a Service we cannot do without the help of the general public,” added Divala.
