The peoples team, Big Bullets have been crowned Malawi football champions for the first time in nine years after beating their  TNM Super League title challangers  Moyale Barracks 1-0  on Saturday at the Kamuzu Stadium, Blantyre.

Bullets pint-sized striker Mussa Manyenje socred the vital goal on the 49 minute after connecting a cross from veteran striker Fischer Kondowe  to hand the Bullets an unassailable 59 points.

The crowd pullers will have to play their last match against on December 6 against related Blantyre United for academic purposes.

The winning of the title for the red and white team sparked wild scenes of celebration in the commercial capital Blantyre.

Bullets supporters painted the streets of Blantyre red and white, especially the Makata road which leads to their populous base of the team in Ndirande township.

Supporters and players hailed coach Elias Kananji for guiding the squad to the title.

“He has been a fantastic tactician and credit should go to him,” said Kondowe.

Moyale coach Nicholas Mhango chose to hail his Northern Region charges for being certain of finishing second.

“I thank my boys that we have defended our position for two consecutive seasons. For us time will come to win the title. It was a crucial game; our counterparts were rough on us, but it is part of the game. We did not play our usual game they confused us psychologically,” Mhango.

Second-placed Moyale have 53 points with a game against Blue Eagles to wind up the campaign on December 6.
