Football Association of Malawi (FAM) in conjunction with the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) have confirmed that nine elite league clubs have failed the preliminary Club Licensing Test as of Tuesday.
Only four teams out of the 16 have been given full licenses after they atleast reached the 70 plus percentage mark.
These are Mighty Be Forward Wanderers who scored 78%, Blue Eagles and Dwangwa United who scored 75% apiece and Moyale Barracks who have so far managed to hit 72% mark.
Accordng to FAM Club Licensing Manager Casper Jangale, Red Lions, Silver Strikers and Mafco FC have been handed provisional licenses having registered 66, 60 and 52% marks respectively.
Those that have failed to make grades are reigning champions Kamuzu Barracks, Nyasa Big Bullets, Mzuni FC, Masters Security, Blantyre United, Azam Tigers, Civo/Epac, Premier Bet Wizard FC and Chitipa United.
Wizard failed miserably with only 2%.
According to Jangale, the nine teams have until Friday this week to put their house in order and reach atleast 50% mark for them to be handed provisional licences failling which, they risk been completely chopped off from the 2017 league participating teams.
“The FIB (First Instant Body) will have a last meeting to finalize the scrutiny of the submissions this Saturday. If the clubs fails to qualify on that day, they will go through the appeals committee which will determine their fate” said Jangale.
In Club Licensing, Super League Clubs need to have a proper setup interms of sporting, Infrastructure, Personnel and Administration, Legal and Finance structures.
According to Jangale, most clubs are failing on Legal and Finance due to unclear ownership of their clubs and for having no full time Accountant.
