Bullets FC win K5m in Malawi Carlsberg promotion

Malawi’s soccer powerhouse Big Bullets FC won the K5 million Carlsberg Win For Your Club Promotion proving that they are most supported team.

The team won the K5million prize money during the grand draw in Mzuzu on Friday as the archrivals Mighty Wanderers FC coming close settle to second position.

Bullets got 30,732 entries, the Nomads got 26,000 while Super League champions Silver Strikers got 5,044.

Chairperson for the Bullets Malinda Chinyama was over the moon with the victory saying the results was a vindication of the team’s status.

Chinyama said the support would motivate the club and players.

“We thank our fans for their support and love for the club which has brought us this money. The money will assist us a lot in running the club,” said Chinyama.

“Above all, we thank Carlsberg Malawi. They are already sponsoring us yet they went further throwing in this promotion to promote football in Malawi. We ask our fans to support Carlsberg so that they have the money too to continue supporting local football.”

The Nomads got consolation through their Blantyre-based fan Sungeni Banda who won the K1million individual prize money during the draw.

The 41-year-old Banda could not hide his joy in a telephone interview with journalists soon after receiving the good news from Carlsberg.

He said he would invest the money in expanding his hawker business.

“I am 100 percent a Nomad and I love Carlsberg green. I am proud that my association with the two has brought me this fortune. I thank Carlsberg for supporting Malawian football and changing lives of its fans,” said Banda.

Carlsberg Malawi Senior Brands Manager for alcoholic beverages Twikale Chirwa said his company was overwhelmed with the support, saying they received over 100,000 entries.

“The aim of the promotion was to encourage fans to contribute financial support to their teams by participating in the SMS entries which would see their teams accumulating more entries and standing a chance of winning K5million,” said Chirwa.

During the promotion launched in April saw Newton Chalunda, Civo fans winning during the first draw, Bullets fan Effort Nthini also won, during the second draw and journalist Rodgers Siula also won K1 million.

The promotion was launched in April and customers and soccer fans were required to send bottle crowns with a unique code under it together with the code of the team of their choice.
