Bullets lands sponsorship: Msungama says  ‘to be unveiled soon’

Malawi TNM Super League champions Big Bullets are on the verge of exorcising the ghost that has haunted them for 10 years with prospects of securing a landmark sponsorship.

Bullets chairperson Kondie Msungama confirmed the development but kept the finer details of the deal close to his chest.

“I can confirm that we have secured a sponsorship,” Msungama said in an interview with Nyasa Times.

“ Right now discussions are underway in Lilongwe with our top executive committee management team. But I can’t disclose the name of the sponsor until we finalise the deal,” added Msungama.

“We will very soon disclose the name of the sponsor,” he assured.

The development comes a month after he disclosed that the team would secure a sponsor before the forthcoming season.

The champios have joined the  Confederation of African Football (CAF) Club Championship and  will start the campaign  in preliminary round on the weekend of February 13 against Fomboni Club de Moheil of Comoros island who have a Malawian player Winster Phiri formerly of Bullets bitter rivals Be Forward Wanderers.

The Bullets are making a return to continental football after 10 years.

Bullets were last sponsored by former president Dr.Bakili Muluzi before getting a rescue package from Carlsberg two seasons ago.

Bullets rivals Mighty Wanderers have also earned themselves a seasonal K70 million sponsorship from a Japanese reconditioned vehicle dealer Be Forward.

Meanwhile, Bullets have lined up a number of friendly games including against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa. There is no confirmation from Sundowns who are also reportedly set for an invitational tournament in Congo next month.

Bullets general secretary Harold Fote said the game  against Mamelodi could be played in Malawi in January.

Change the name of the team to Blantyre Bullets and I will be one of the major contributors or sponsors to the team.Bullets is my childhood team and I would be proud to see it turn commercial with a well organized professional setup including stadium, academy, merchandise store, clinic, and club house.I would love to see the club become one of the powerhouses in Africa competing with the likes of Esperance of Tunisia, Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast,TP Mazembe of DRC,Al- Ahly of Egypt, Kaizer Chiefs of RSA, or Ghana’s Heart of Oak which are real clubs and not teams because their professional setup is complete.

I said the best is yet to come and will be coming forevermore. Believe me or not the sponsorship more than double than our neighbours got.And I am seeing BB going beyond the semi finals of CAF competition and the team will be able to buy reputable players in the country and beyond. All doubting Thomases must mark my words. This is the team for people by the people the records are there for everyone to see.My request to the officials to be more focused and determined by commercialising the club and investing in both human and infrastructure development. The team has great potential of becoming a powerhouse of football on African Con

Bravo!BB!Bravo the Red Army be assured of our support all long to the gloryland. This the whole truth of the matter. My appeal to the players who have been approached to join the team, there will be no any other time to join the winning team than this .If any player worth his salt want to play professional football locally and abroad this is the starting point to fulfil your dream than from those briefcase clubs you are playing for.

  44. Kafundo says:

Good news indeed! I hope though that we will not wake up tomorrow to be greeted by the news that the sponsors have changed their mind as has been the usual case. It seems these football administrators diverge premature information before any concrete agreement is reached. All the same, I wish bullets all the best in their endeavour to find a sponsor.
