Bullets star Chilapondwa criticises Malawi  squad selection

Big Bullets and former Flames international midfielder James Chilapondwa has faulted Flames coach Young Chimodzi and his entire technical panel for what he calls poor selection of players.

Chilapondwa told MBC Radio 2FM on Saturday that the coaches did not select players on merit as players who have been consistent in the 2013-14 season have been left out.

“What I can say is that some of the players have not been picked on merit and some don’t deserve to be included in the selection” said Chilapondwa adding that “they don’t even deserve to be at the national team”.

He cited names of few players that have been showcasing an impressed performance but they have been completely left out.

“Some players like Mwambene [Kumbukani-Red Lions], Victor Limbani of Big Bullets and Yamikani Fodya and others whom I have played against but I don’t know their names have consistent but they have been left out” wondered Chilapondwa.

Reacting to the development, Flames Head Coach Young Chimodzi refused to go down and said the technical panel is looking for players who can play and at the same time fight and die for the country.

“Mainly we are looking for fighters when going to Benin; players who can die for our nation” said Chimodzi.

Malawi is expected to play Mozambique in a friendly match staged at Kamuzu Stadium on 6th July, 2014 as part of Malawi’s 50 years independence celebrations.

The team will later flew to Uganda a week later to play Uganda before landing in Benin for its final qualifying game of the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifying games in which the winner proceeds to group stages.
