Bullets whack Civo to pile pressure on Silver: Malawi TNM Super League

10-man Big Bullets FC on Saturday, February 02, 2013 piled more pressure on hot favourites Silver Strikers after hitting Civo United 2-0 in a TNM Super League match played before a mammoth crowd at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Midfielder Dalitso Sailes put the Bullets on the winning trail barely 14 minutes into the game when he tapped in a loose ball from the six yard box following a corner kick by Fischer Kondowe.

The Bullets suffered a blow in their quest to increase the scores as their captain Fischer ‘Anong’a’ Kondowe was given marching orders by Lilongwe based referee Duncan Lengani for foolishly retaliating to a foul by Martin Masoatheka.

After the whistle had already gone for a foul in favour of Bullets, the former Flames winger rushed to the Civo player and knocked him down with his chest, prompting the ref to produce the red card.

Undaunted by the sending off of their skipper, the visitors continued pushing forward and were two-up mid-way into the second half- courtesy of a brilliant strike from star striker Gabadinho Mhango, who took on a Civo defender before firing home with his left foot from a tight angle.

Civo coach Thom Nkorongo was lost for words after the whistle/

“We can’t blame anyone. We messed it ourselves,” said Nkorongo before disappearing the scene.

His counterpart Eddie Ng’onamo attributed the victory to hard work.

“We told the boys not to keep pressurizing after the sending off and we got the second goal,” said Ng’onamo, who condemned his skipper to un-sportsmanship behavior.

Talking of his team’s chances of snatching the title from the bankers’ , Ng’onamo declared that his side would win the title.

With the win, the ‘People’s team,’ is now on top of the league’s log table with 52 points from 26 games.

Their reign may, however, be short-lived should Silver, who have 51 points from 24 games earn a point against Blantyre United tomorrow, February 3, 2013 at Silver Stadium.
