Bushiri offers to bankroll Malawi to Africa Cup of Nations

President of South African based Shephered Bushiri Investments (SBI)  and head of  Enlightened Church Gathering (ECG) Ministries, Prophet  Shephered Bhushiri has offered to bail out and bankroll financiallly crippled Football Assaociation of Malawi (FAM) to enable the national football team, the Flames,  participate in  Africa Cup of Nations and 2018 Championship of African Nations (Chan) tournaments.

Bushiri at his football academy: I am ready to bankroll Malawi national football team for AFCON exploits

The good news comes barely few days after t FAM publicly announced pulling out of the 2018 CHAN and 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) competitions.

According to a statement signed by Bushiri’s Communications officer Ephraim Nyondo and made available to Nyasa Times, the onus is now on Malawi FA thus to approach yhe billionaire entrepreneur and Man of God using proper channels.

FAM  has also been asked to prepare and present a budget to Bushiri, according to the statement.

“President of South Africa-based Shepherd Bushiri Investments [SBI], Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has offered to bankroll the Flames to participate in [Afcon and Chan].

“The billionaire entrepreneur, who is also leader and founder of Enlightened Christian Gathering [ECG], says the onus is now on FAM to approach him using the right procedures and also present a budget which will be scrutinised by his finance personnel,” reads the statement

The statement further states that it has always been the wish of the Prophet, who is popularly called ‘Major 1’ to help the national team since it carries the Malawi flag through its participation in various international football competitions.

This is evidenced by his financial assistance rendered last year when he presented a cheque of over K40 Million to enable the Flames fulfil its Afcon qualifying assignments.

Nyondo said President Peter Mutharika encourages “patriotism” and Bushiri has seen it wise to assist the Flames and ensure that they take part in Afcon and Chan in spirit of patriotism.

In quoted reported by Weekend Nation, Flames captain Limbikani ‘Pupa’ Mzava and soccer commentator George Kaudza Masina hailed Bushiri for what they described as a timely gesture.

“The man of God is always there for us in times of need. If we had more people like him, our game would have developed.

“I hope the authorities will follow up on the offer because it is very rare that you get such an opportunity and bearing in mind that time is not on our side.

“This gives us hope that we will take part in the Nations Cup. It would be sad for us to forego such prestigious tournaments,” said Mzava from his Durban base in South Africa yesterday.

Masina said:“Coming at a time when there was a cloud of uncertainty regarding the Flames participation, this is good news. If we could have two or three people like him, our game would reach the desired lofty heights.

“Missing such tournaments would have far-reaching consequences, but my only hope is that FAM will negotiate for a long-term partnership with him because he has demonstrated patriotism and passion for the game,” he said.

This is nosense. I feel pity for those commenting in favour off Bushiri. Do you think Bushiri can manage funding for these two major competitions from A to Z. Let us allow him and see if the teams can even reach advanced stage. For sure, he will trigger a curse on the team for early exit and he will find other excuses to curtail the agreement between FAM and himself. Mind you, he is a business man who longs for profits in whatever he does. Let’s wait and see!
