Malawi smokers welcome Nyasa’s cigarette brand
Malawi smokers have welcomed the launch of the country’s cigarette brand into the local market by Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC).
Nyasa’s Managing Director, Konrad Buckle, said the first local brand will be called, 2010 cigarettes and goes for sale on local market this week.
“As a long-term smoker, I am happy that a local brand is being launched. The hope is that Nyasa should produce their cigarettes with menthol sensations,” said Simon Khoviwa in Blantyre.
A younger smoker said he was excited with the news of 2010 Malawi’s cigarettes.
“I can’t wait to puff 2010 cigarettes,” said Lameck Stephano.
The Malawi tobacco company has said their products will have both menthol and Virginia blends.
The Malawi cigarettes will also be exported in the region and will compete with other products at the international market according to Nyasa Manufacturing Company.
“We are already registering our brands in Mozambique and have sent samples to Zambia and Tanzania,” Buckle told journalists.
The company has invested about K250 million to set up the production plant.
