“I have only two children and these are boys only, I could have chosen to have another baby so that may be she could be a girl, but I said no two boys were enough this has been the case up to now.” said the former first lady.

She said family planning will help manage population boom to lessen pressure against country’s economy.

“We have been hearing that there is shortage of drugs in hospitals, shortage of beds, shortage of food this is because of over population, since our resources remains the same, our but the population is so huge, we are exerting pressure on the resources,” she said.

After delivering her lecture to the attentive women,  Callista Mutharika gave out different items to women in the martenity and children’s  ward.

The items included baby nappies, shawels, soap, baby lotions, just to mention afew.

In his remarks Miitundu Hospital In-charge, Dr Emmanuel Nyerewa, commended Madam Mutharika for visiting the hospital and donating the items.

“As you know these patients come from very far they lack basic needs like soap so I thank Madam Mutharika for coming and visit us,” said Munyeriwa.

During the visit, Mutharika was accompanied by members of Dignity Adolescent Club(DAC) an organisation which is based in Mitundu. And is being  sponsored by Callista Mutharika herself.

Malawi as a nation have great problemsll in matters conserning over increase in population growth rate not only because of ignorant but because of the nature of education that is offered. Malawi need to embac on pragmatic kind of eduction that involves practical methodology other than concetrating on theories that cannot help. It is much better that which former first lady has done. That is being practical, malawi lacks people who can come down and teach people through their own examples.

O……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………O The tone being used by Callista is not the right one . . . Do you ask a mad man to make a choice or decision? Will you be mad at the mad person if he/she makes the wrong choice or decision? Do you leave an illiterate population to make a choice? What then is this language and tone that “youthful women may wish to consider family planning”? Consider? Seriously? What if in their world of illiteracy, they consider having many kids? ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… . . . This issue of family planning hence controlling population growth, needs to be handled… Read more »
