Cardiac arrest: Two pastors die during church service in Malawi

Last Sunday services in Malawi Baptist and CCAP churches were marked by a sad passing of pastors during their sermons.

Kuyeli to be buried
Fare thee well pastor

In Lilongwe at Shilo Baptist Church belonging to the Providence Industrial Mission in Area 22B, Pastor Makande suddenly collapsed at the pulpit.

It is alleged that the death occurred as a result of a heart attack. All the attempts of the congregation to save the pastor’s life yielded no results.

They took him to Kamuzu Central Hospital where doctors told them he was already dead.

Makande is a third pastor to die suddenly in the month of January after pastors Buleya and Chitedze.

The death of Pastor Makande has unearthed long dead stories of pastors’ deaths in which residents suspect foul play.

Local leaders in Area 22B said on Monday morning they were fed up with the deaths and wanted to talk to the president of PIM, but after their meeting with him in the afternoon they seemed not to have reached a consensus.

Group village headman Chimpunga said he was disturbed at the deaths saying there was need for an immediate solution to the problem.

“We are very worried about the deaths. This is the third time that a pastor has died in the same fashion. Not sick and in January,” complained Chimpunga.

Elsewhere, former CCAP Blantyre City Presbytery Moderator, Reverend Frank Anderson Kuyeli collapsed during a church service on Sunday at Namalindi CCAP in Chikwawa.

Blantyre City Presbytery Clerk Reverend Baxton Maulidi Reverend said Kuyeli was taken to Saint Matthews clinic at Nchalo, and later to Mwayiwathu where he was pronounced dead at around 9 pm.

Kuyeli served as Moderator for Blantyre City Presbytery Moderator from 2006 to 2008 and died at the age of 60.

According to Maulidi, he wanted people to remember Kuyeli for his years of committed service, which he loved with his whole heart.

The body of will be laid to rest tomorrow, January 6 2016 at Lauji village, Traditional Authority (T/A) in Chikhwawa

He is survived by a wife, eight children and grandchildren.

Is this Pastor Kuyeli who resigned from Ilovo to answer God’s call to His Ministry. Rest in Peace Papa, friend to my big brother and father to my dear friends at Nchalo. May the Good Lord give you your deserved prize which you earned through your good works and preaching of the Word from from the time you were Church Elder at Nchalo CCAP and then Reverend in Bt Synod. I wish I was in Malawi to bid you farewell. RIP Papa.

At least the Pastor did not turn himself into a snake in the church. He just collapsed and passed on peacefully. Rest in peace Pastor for dying while serving God.
