Cardiac arrest: Two pastors die during church service in Malawi

Last Sunday services in Malawi Baptist and CCAP churches were marked by a sad passing of pastors during their sermons.

Kuyeli to be buried

Fare thee well pastor

In Lilongwe at Shilo Baptist Church belonging to the Providence Industrial Mission in Area 22B, Pastor Makande suddenly collapsed at the pulpit.

It is alleged that the death occurred as a result of a heart attack. All the attempts of the congregation to save the pastor’s life yielded no results.

They took him to Kamuzu Central Hospital where doctors told them he was already dead.

Makande is a third pastor to die suddenly in the month of January after pastors Buleya and Chitedze.

The death of Pastor Makande has unearthed long dead stories of pastors’ deaths in which residents suspect foul play.

Local leaders in Area 22B said on Monday morning they were fed up with the deaths and wanted to talk to the president of PIM, but after their meeting with him in the afternoon they seemed not to have reached a consensus.

Group village headman Chimpunga said he was disturbed at the deaths saying there was need for an immediate solution to the problem.

“We are very worried about the deaths. This is the third time that a pastor has died in the same fashion. Not sick and in January,” complained Chimpunga.

Elsewhere, former CCAP Blantyre City Presbytery Moderator, Reverend Frank Anderson Kuyeli collapsed during a church service on Sunday at Namalindi CCAP in Chikwawa.

Blantyre City Presbytery Clerk Reverend Baxton Maulidi Reverend said Kuyeli was taken to Saint Matthews clinic at Nchalo, and later to Mwayiwathu where he was pronounced dead at around 9 pm.

Kuyeli served as Moderator for Blantyre City Presbytery Moderator from 2006 to 2008 and died at the age of 60.

According to Maulidi, he wanted people to remember Kuyeli for his years of committed service, which he loved with his whole heart.

The body of will be laid to rest tomorrow, January 6 2016 at Lauji village, Traditional Authority (T/A) in Chikhwawa

He is survived by a wife, eight children and grandchildren.

Is this Pastor Kuyeli who resigned from Ilovo to answer God’s call to His Ministry. Rest in Peace Papa, friend to my big brother and father to my dear friends at Nchalo. May the Good Lord give you your deserved prize which you earned through your good works and preaching of the Word from from the time you were Church Elder at Nchalo CCAP and then Reverend in Bt Synod. I wish I was in Malawi to bid you farewell. RIP Papa.

I’m one of the CCAP elders (Chilumba CCAP) who worked with Reverend Kuyeli at Blantyre City Presbytery from 2006-2008. He was, indeed, a humble and honest man of God. You could really enjoy his presence and feel Reverend Kuyeli was indeed called by God to serve Christ unlike today’s reverends who are there for money. This is a big loss to Blantyre Synod. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE

  16. Martin Hill says:

People should not quickly conclude that all the Pastors died due to some foul play; questions should be posed, such as, ‘were they suffering from high blood pressure or not? If yes, were they taking antihypertensive drugs pr not?
In our society most people do not undergo regular blood pressure checks.Consequently, you get such cases mentioned above.

It is a pity that Pastors are passing on like that. May Their Souls Rest In Peace. This Cardiac arrest is becoming a problem. Let us remember that Jesus Christ was betrayed by his Treasurer Judas Escaliot and he was crucified by the Religious people. Kapena azibusawa akuwadyetsa Temikitu!

    O………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………O
Some die of wounds sustained from cheating escapades with other men’s wives . . .
Others die while loving someone, then betrayed by the same love hence commit suicide . .
And others die while serving their country fighting in a war . . .

So goes the list, but time is of essence . . .

All are deaths but no death is nobler than the one you succumb to, while serving the Lord.
    O……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..O

  28. NKALAPWAGA says:

    Bwana Gwede TA who?

  29. Sapitwa says:

The Pastors are well fed. They are usually visiting their members, go to functions and there is always nsima and nyama koma too much nyama. There are also too many gifts to these Pastors: nkhuku, mbuzi, mpunga, ufa etc. They are mostly fat and do little or no exercises. Some have HBPs and Diabetes without realizing.
They collapse dead usually due to life style.
    Rest in peace.
