However, the tournament’s game of the week involves Blue Eagles and Mafco and will be played at Nankhaka stadium on Saturday.

While Lilongwe based giants Silver Strikers will host Mzimba-based OP FC.

The remaining five games, according to fixtures made available to Nyasa Times, will be played next week, and winners in this round will proceed to quarter finals.

Next week will see minnows Chilumba Barracks hosting Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, Red Lions engaging Moyale Barracks while Big Bullets will host Silver Reserves.

Support Battalion will be up against Civo United while Azam Tigers will face Dedza Young Soccer Stars.

“Everything is ready for the round of 16 encounters. Rules remain unchanged; a side that loses automatically gets out of the competition. Aside from that, there will be no extra-time. Once regulation time ends with a draw, the game will go straight into penalties,” said Gomezgani Zakazaka, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Competitions Manager.

Four Super League teams failed to reach the around of 16 after being booted out of the tournament by lower league sides.

Super Leagues that were shown the exit door are Eapc FC, FISD Wizards, Airborne Rangers and Mzuni FC.

As such, more casualties are expected as teams looks forward to booking quarter finals tickets.

Big Bullets won the cup last year after beating rookies Zomba United 2-0 at Kamuzu stadium. The People’s Team has won the cup twice, while their rivals Be Forward Wanderers were the inaugural winners in 2000, military side Kamuzu Barracks, Blue Eagles and Moyale Barracks were as well once the title holders.
