Chair, GS ousted in CRWFL polls: Mpuwani back on hot seat

It is not common for a sitting chairman and general secretary to lose in an election but the uncommon happened during Central Region Women Football Committee’s (CRWFC) elections at the weekend that saw outgoing chairperson Shambashe Kadzamila and her GS Faggie Kadzingatchire being unseated by fellow members from the old committee.

Kadzamila was floored by outgoing executive member Daphine Mpuwani, who got 12 votes against eight for the outgoing chairlady with outgoing general secretary Kadzingatchire pulling out before voting for the position of secretary.

Agness Kumtambila went in unopposed as vice chairperson with Liz Matekwe also sailing unopposed on the position of vice GS.

In the contest for the position of treasurer, Diana Kadzayekha fared miserably against Mary Mphambo, managing just four votes against her challenger.

Jullie Ndalama, Catherine Nawanga, Maggie Kathyanga, Martha Chimanjamanja and a Ndilowe from Salima were voted in as executive members.

The elections, which took place at Lilongwe Community Centre were presided over by Central Region Football Association vice chairman Charles Kapichi with assistance from National Women Football Committee vice general secretary Carol Phiri and treasurer Winnie Kayuni.

Mpuwani, who once served as chairperson for the committee said she was happy to be back at the helm of the regional women football league and promised to change the status of women football in the central region.
