The main opposition Malawi Congress Party(MCP)shadow cabinet on Friday met in Lilongwe chaired by Leader of Opposiiton Lazarus Chakwera to discuss myriad of issues locking the country.
Chakwera confirmed about the shadow cabinet meeting in an interview with Nyasa Times and describing it as “very crucial.”
However, the party spokesperson, Dr Jessie Kabwira told Nyasa Times that the shadow cabinet met in order to discuss pertinent issues facing the country and find ways on how challenges locking the nation can be addressed.
Kabwira said the MCP shadow cabinet discussed issues of Malawians who are trapped in South Africa following the wave of afrophobic attacks.
She also said MCP cabinet discussed the issue of the looming hunger following the dry spell which has affected 21 districts and floods which have affected some parts of the country.
According to Kabwira, the MCP cabinet also analysed how best the party can advise on the killings of Albinos in the country.
“We are calling upon government to address these challenges with sustainable and tangible ways,” said Kabwira
MCP shadow cabinet is comprising Members of Parliament .
According to Chakwera, the shadow cabinet was appointed to deepen and “strengthen engagement on
the policy front” as MCP continue to look for the best ways of serving all Malawians while they are in the opposition.
Chakwera said :”As a party, we are committed to offering the Malawi Nation the best we can through constructive policy engagement with the current Government and our counterparts in the opposition.”
In the shadow cabinet, Chakwera who is also MCP president is a shadow commander in chief of Malawi Defence Force and the Malawi Police Services,. He is also spokesman for the MCP on Parastatals and Disaster Preparedness.
Veteran MCP parliamentarian Joseph Njobvuyalema is a shadow Minister of Finance, Economic Planning & Development.
Youthful lawyer and MP, Louis Chakhwantha is hadow minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
MCP spokeswoman Dr Jessie Kabwila IS shadow minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare a portfolio which is held by Patricia Kaliati in President Peter Mutharika’s Cabinet.
Vitus Dzoole Mwale is shadow minister of labour.
Other key members are Ezekiel Ching’oma as shadow information and civic education minister, Rhino Chiphiko as shadow transport, public works minister and Juliana Lunguzi as shadow health minister.

Maxwell Thyolera makes it as home affairs and internal security, Home Affairs & Internal Security:
Felix Jumbe is for agriculture, irrigation and water. Khumbize Chiponda is for foreign affairs and Dr. Elias Chakwera for education.
Willard Gwengwe is shadow at, industry and tourism, Dr Amon Nkhata natural resources. Energy and mining, and Lingson Belekanyama local government, while Jacob Hara, ,is shadow minister of lands, housing and physical planning.
