Chalamanda lead vendors to clean-up Blantyre City
Blantyre-based renowned private practice lawyer Noel Chalamanda, who is aspiring for the Blantyre City Centre Ward, on Sunday led a group of his supporters to a clean-up exercise of various streets within the Commercial Business District (CBD).
Chalamanda, who is contesting in the Blantyre City Centre Ward as an independent candidate, said he decided to lead in the clean-up exercise to pass on the message to keep Blantyre City clean.
The exercise, which started at the MSB Car Park, saw vendors and Chalamanda supporters sweeping the city streets.
Chalamanda said he would lobby for the establishment of modern markets that can accommodate more businesspersons.
Blantyre vendors’ chairperson, Bridget Malema, said the clean up exercise by Chalamanda, is evidence that the man has the welfare of the people at heart.
Malema said it is the first time that an individual has taken it upon himself to clean the whole city using his personal resources hence the need to commend Chalamanda for his efforts
The lawyer, who holds a masters of law degree from United Kingdom, said his ambition to run as a Councillot has been driven by the continued deterioration of Blantyre City.
